Daily Forecast: May 17 2024

A much slower and less active day is in store for most of San Angelo today. However, there is a slight chance of pop-up thunderstorms south and east of San Angelo due to a fair amount of instability, low-level moisture, and if the surface can heat up to its convective temperature. Highs for today remain relatively low with highs just above 80°F. By the weekend, strong upper-level ridging will be over mainly west Texas, as well as a strong thermal ridge. An upper-level trough is expected to move in late Monday, but the thermal ridge will still be in control of the temperature, keeping the heat around until at least Tuesday. The next chance for showers and thunderstorms looks to be next Wednesday and Thursday as medium to long-range models are picking up a cold front passing through most of the area of San Angelo and Trans-Pecos as well. Timing and intensity are too uncertain at this time, but you can expect some type of development along the cold front.
